![]() Anything that is installed, hidden files or interferes with computer use. Specifically I am trying to figure out if there are any known issues with this "Proactive" protection. When asking if the downloadable version of DCS:Black Shark uses the the same Starforce the retail DVD version uses I am told that Starforce now uses Starforce "Proactive" that does not install drivers/rootkits like the original star force. I have wanted to purchase DCS:Black Shark and a few other games for a while now but their developers choose Starforce as their DMR protection system. I would rather not buy/support a game and its developer that supports a company like Starforce because of past business practices that I do not agree with, but unfortunately there is no alternative except not to buy the games. That aside, any CD drive no matter how good the brand is only for a certain amount of spins, 99 percent of its life is wasted spinning up and spinning down game cd's so you can prove your not a theif, How would you feel if everytime you switched on your TV you had to spend 3 minutes proving its yours? Apart from wear and tear on the hardware, widespread issues repoted on peoples PC's (incuding permanent hardware failure), no accoutability on the part of the copy protection deveoper, The fact that I do have to get off my fat arse and find find a damn cd I just flat out don't like to be inconvinienced by crap that doesn't affect the people they are trying to stop, Copy protected games are available to download right along side games without any copy protection.I'm trying to find some information on the newer Starforce Proactive system being used. Starforce and most modern forms of copy protection look for the CD and at the integrity of the EXE files multiple times during gameplay, Plus loading time can be increased by 2 or 3 minutes depending on the game as it verifies the CD in the drive. So whats the drivel you mentioned about CD Reading being slow? And as for how many games are on your PC, so? You only play them one at a time - tell me how you play several at once? Everyone uses this excuse, its been heard a thousand times. ![]()
